I am the Resurrection and the life” -John 11
As the Sunday feasting ends, and night closes in, we put the candles on the table. Beginning with 4 candles snuffed out and 3 lit, here is the reminder of light and darkness.
As true as the sun in the sky,
there stood Lazarus alive in front of them.
Death
the deepest darkness known to man,
Jesus turned to unexplainable light.
Stumbling quickly away from Lazarus’ tomb,
they held their unbelief tightly, running for the darkness.
…so from that day they plotted to take his life” -John 11
Snuff out the 5th candle.
If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble,
because he sees the light of this world.
But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles,
because the light is not in him. -John 11
Stumbling people all over the path, it’s as if it is night and no-one can see in this darkness. Light of this world, shine like the day, so I can walk by the light of your steps.
And in these thoughts we begin another week of Lent, full of Sunday’s feast and reminded of the darkness we are about to step into.
